Mary's 2018 Workshops and Lecture Schedule

OPAL ESSENCE:  Friday, February 16 and Saturday, February 17, 2018
                          $125 plus pattern
Lake Farmpark Annual Quilt Show, 8800 Euclid-Chardon Rd. (Rt. 6), Kirtland, Ohio
This two day workshop uses Lorena Uriate's original pattern.  You'll learn some basic
applique techniques plus the very efficient and accurate Set-In Piecing Simplified technique
for chain piecing through y-seams!  A scrappy fabric palette works well with this pattern so
you should be able to do most of the shopping in your stash!
Black and white too stark for you, I have a blue sample in progress, too -- see the picture below!
To register, call Lake Metroparks at 440-358-7275.

THE FEATHERED STAR:  Friday, April 27, 2018
Virginia Consortium of Quilters Celebration 2018, South Mountain Lake 4-H Center
An all-day workshop working on a wallhanging using Marti Michell’s Template Set P
(27” block) or O (19” block). You will be amazed at how accurately and easily this stunning
block goes together!! During the workshop, we will complete the cutting and then assemble
over half the block. Skills include cutting with rotary templates and achieving a consistent
¼” seam allowance. Set P is $22, Set O is $18, and both will be available during the workshop.

DIAMOND STARS:  Saturday, April 28, 2018
Virginia Consortium of Quilters Celebration 2018, South Mountain Lake 4-H Center
An all-day workshop to start a sampler of six-pointed stars (hexagonal blocks) while
learning a simplified approach to set-in piecing. This chain-piecing approach eliminates the
stop-and-start sewing plus it produces very secure y-seam intersections. Students may choose
to work with Marti Michell’s Template Set G or H; each set yields a different size block.
During class, we begin with a basic star and then explore some of the interesting variations of it.
I used Set H for the quilt in the photo -- the stars measure about 10" by 11".  The largest
star that can be made with Set G is 6 1/2" by 7 1/2".  FQ's will work fine!  Smaller stars can
also me made with each set -- 3 of the smaller stars will fit inside one of the large stars.  Usually
gals begin with Set H -- there's lots of flexibility built into each set so getting one set will keep
a quilter busy for a while!!  I'll have an inventory of both sets with me at the workshop, so you
 can always get more!!
Inquires about availability and registration should be directed to Karin McElvein,
1309 Maplewood Ave, Norfolk VA 23503 or by visiting the Consortium website HERE.
